About Johnston Investment Counsel

Johnston Investment Counsel (JIC) was formed in 1997. JIC is an independent, employee-owned investment consulting, advisory and financial planning firm. JIC's investment services are offered to both institutional and individual clients. Johnston Investment Counsel's sole compensation is from its client-based fees (i.e. we do not accept commission business).

As a 100% independent firm, Johnston Investment Counsel does not have any affiliations with brokerage firms, insurance companies, bank trust departments, or actuarial firms. We believe this structure allows us to provide our clients with totally unbiased advice and recommendations.

Johnston Investment Counsel is a research-based organization. Johnston Investment Counsel's own proprietary stock and mutual fund research is supplemented with research from outside organizations. See examples of of Johnston Investment Counsel's research.

Johnston Investment Counsel places a great deal of emphasis on continuing education. Employees of Johnston Investment Counsel have achieved Masters in Business, as well as the Chartered Financial Analyst and Certified Financial Planner designations. In addition, there is significant continuing education that Johnston Investment Counsel's professionals must undertake each year.

Johnston Investment Counsel's Unique Characteristics

There are several factors that differentiates Johnston Investment Counsel from other brokerage and investment management firms. One is our total and absolute independence. Another is that Johnston Investment Counsel's recommendations are based on our own research. We are a fee-based firm and, therefore, have no incentive to "sell product". We believe being employee owned is also a significant differentiating factor as our clients will interact with a principal of the firm. The years of professional experience we bring to our clients is also a a significant client benefit.
